Tactile Illumination

Darkness was encroaching across the primary corridor, reducing visibility to unacceptable thresholds. I advanced across the rug to the base of the metal floor lamp. A heavy brass foot-pedal switch obstructed the baseplate. With deliberate stance, I stepped firmly upon the toggle with my right boot. A sharp, mechanical snap echoed through the chamber, instantly flooding the perimeter with warm luminescence. The sector is now properly illuminated. Ambush is impossible.
