Claiming the Canvas
Silence held the ring under the dim blue wall. I stood rigid against the tension of the ropes. A slow pulse gathered in my chest, firm and steady. I chose to move. Deliberately, I shifted my weight forward onto my left boot, testing the taut canvas beneath me. It yielded slightly under my balance. I raised my right arm, gripping the top red ring rope. The plastic cord bent under my grip, vibrating faintly through my fingers. My stance was set; the square belonged to me.
