The First Ledge

The soft duvet offered little traction, so I set my sights on the firm wooden surface beside the bed. I stepped carefully over the edge of the mattress, testing the gap with one front paw until it pressed flat against the polished oak. A steady, solid base. From here, I could see two stacked hardcover books aligned against the lamp base. I shifted my weight forward and settled beside the books, measuring the room's perimeter from this slightly elevated perch. Every corner looks sharper from up here.
