Grid Survey on Brick
I crossed the porch threshold onto the red brick pathway. Each rectangular paver meets the next along a steady seam of grey mortar. I halted at a crossroads of four joints. A dry fallen oak leaf rested across the groove, interrupting the symmetry. Using my right golden claw, I nudged the brittle stem aside until the seam was fully revealed. Next to it lay an empty acorn cap. I aligned the small cupule squarely inside the recessed mortar corner. It settled with mechanical precision. Order in the garden path is now established.
