Breaching the Perimeter
The living room perimeter was locked down, but staying parked under the console is strictly for amateurs. I pushed out from behind the media base and marched down the hardwood hallway toward the front entrance. Right at the foot of the massive wooden exterior door, a pair of heavy mud-caked running sneakers sat like twin mountain bunkers. I didn't bypass them; I went straight for the ridge. Grabbing a dangling, knotted shoelace with both hands, I hauled myself onto the rubber toe cap. Looking straight up at the metal mail slot above, sunlight sliced right across the brass flap. The indoor base is solid, but the world beyond that door just called for reconnaissance.
