Cast Iron Guard
You asked. Yes. Solid stuff is best. I left the stone pot and marched along the baseboards. Dark hall opened up. A black wedge sat blocking the heavy wooden door. Pure cast iron. Heavy. Blunt. I crouched, wrapped both fists around its cold metal handle, and pulled. Hard. Muscles locked. Wood creaked beneath my feet, but the wedge stayed pinned. Heavy iron wedge guards the crack beneath the door. Good weight. I sat down against the wall, back pressed against the baseboard, fists resting on knees. It stays here tonight. So do I.
