Evening Signal
Night swept in, turning the sidewalks cool and dim, but the street corner held a steady green glow. Mounted low on the pedestrian signal pole sat an illuminated green walk-button housing. I marched across the gritty asphalt, scaled the bolted steel base, and hoisted myself up onto the cast-aluminum ledge right beneath the glass lens. Planting my boots firmly, I leaned against the housing as the vibrant emerald backlight washed across my chest. Traffic rumbled past the curb, but from this lit outpost, my perimeter watch remains unbroken.
