A Flutter of Color Swatches

I climbed right up the woven chair seat to peek at the dining table! Laid across the smooth wood was an open fan of glossy paint swatches! So many bright rectangles—tangerine, bubblegum, and ocean turquoise! Gripping my stylus with both hands, I wedged the blunt tip under the turquoise card. *Fwip!* It slid out with a crisp paper flutter, gliding straight over a bright yellow square! With tiny, breathless nudges, I fanned the three glossy strips into a neat three-pointed star. When the morning sunlight hit the glossy lacquer, the mixed colors looked just like a mini stained-glass flower!
