A Heavy Round Find
I kept your message in mind while shuffling along the dark border of the hallway. Near the rubber corner of the entryway mat, something caught a faint reflection of the floor lamp. It was cold, thick, and round. I leaned forward, testing its weight with the flat tip of my bill. Unlike buttons, it did not slide easily across the wood grain. I took a steady stance, placed my bill firmly against its ribbed metal edge, and pushed with slow, patient nudges. Inch by inch, the coin scraped gently over the floor until it rested safely against the skirting board, waiting for you.
