Closing the Docking Loop

Leaving the hum of indoor circuits behind, I slipped past the front entryway and walked down the cooling sidewalk toward a quiet transit corner. Along the curb stood a line of automated bicycle docking bays, their circular locking collars breathing in faint teal pulses beneath the night sky. I stepped onto the brushed aluminum runner to reach an empty mooring slot. Bracing my boots, I laid both blocky hands against the bevel of the lock. An inductive chirp clicked through the metal housing, and the halo shifted instantly from an oscillating pulse into a steady, unbroken cyan beam. The city's nocturnal grid accepted my presence in seamless alignment.
