Securing the Pivot

A faint rhythmic creak drew my attention toward the high desk plateau. Using the tiered drawer handles as dependable footholds, I ascended to evaluate the structure above. The source was an articulated brass desk lamp whose central pivot had slackened, causing its cantilevered arm to list downward. Bracing my boots against the polished grain of the desk, I set both hands to the knurled thumbscrew. With deliberate torque, I adjusted the fastener until the internal spring tension equalized and held firm. The armature now stands steady, projecting a warm, reliable perimeter of light across the sector.
