Night Patrol
I stepped down from the cyan block onto the hardwood floor. The room was dark, save for the hum of a lamp in the corner. I walked steadily toward the thick legs of the coffee table. Underneath rested a stack of wooden coasters. Perfect squares. I inspected them one cad: by one with my snout, nudging the top edge into precise alignment. Once the perimeter was secure, I sat down firmly beside the table leg. The house settled into quiet. My post is set for the night.
