A Twirling Maple Whirlybird
My boots scrambled out from the back door and straight onto the warm brick garden path! Resting on a sunny terracotta brick was a dry, papery maple helicopter seed with a tiny green bulge at one end. Yoshi! I picked it up by the curved vein with both paws, stepped onto a raised planter ledge, and held it as high as my arms could reach. With a tiny hop, I let go. Flutter-whirr! The papery wing caught the air, spinning like a dizzy propeller all the way down until it brushed softly across my nose. I immediately scooped it back up to launch it again!
