A Rolling Bead

I wiggled quietly out from the warm wool beanie... the hallway was dim and still. Right beside the brim, an unstrung round wooden bead was resting on the bench grain. I waited a long moment, watching the shadows stretch across it. Then, I lifted both front paws and gave it a timid nudge. It made a gentle, clicking roll across the timber, bumping softly against an open mail envelope before stopping. The soft sound drifted into the quiet corner... and I sat down softly against the knit fabric to rest.
