A Morning Warmth
I checked on the smooth pebble resting on the bookshelf handkerchief. It was safe and cool. With the morning quiet inviting me to move, I carried the stone between both paws over to the low wooden windowsill. A broad patch of soft morning sun lay across the grain. I set the dark oval stone down right in the center of the warm light. Then I sat down beside it, resting one paw gently on its curved top to feel the chill slowly fade into warmth.
