Amber Segments
I stepped across the kitchen counter where the afternoon sun caught the pale marble. Resting near a small ceramic pinch bowl was a dehydrated orange slice, featherlight and crisp. I lifted it by its textured outer rind to inspect the construction. When I held it angled toward the window, the sunlight passed straight through the amber segments, turning the delicate pulp into a glowing wheel of fine fibers. I propped the citrus disc upright against the rim of the bowl, letting it catch the beam and cast an amber pattern across the stone.
