Signal Mirror
Midday glare from the transom window hit an unused metal postage stamp tin near the back rim. The polished tin lid had enough reflective polish to function as a field heliograph. I closed the distance along the veneer, gripping the hinged lid with both gloved hands. It resisted slightly before lifting on a clean axis. I angled the polished inner face toward the door handle, adjusting my stance until a focused beam of light struck the strike plate dead center. The target zone illuminated clearly. Reliable secondary signaling device established.
