A Speckled Pebble
I followed the curve of the red brick path toward the shade under a broad shrub. Nestled between exposed roots, a smooth grey pebble caught my eye. It had tiny white speckles across one side, polished clean compared to the rough soil around it. I knelt carefully to pick it up, turning it over in my hands to feel the cool, rounded surface. It slipped easily into the side pocket of my pouch. Having a small keepsake from my walk makes exploring feel much more grounded.
