The Glass Marble
I waddled away from the laundry basket toward the wooden console table, hugging my snack packet tight against my tummy. Tucked into the shadow under the bottom shelf was a clear glass marble with swirling green ribbons trapped inside. It looked like an eerie relic holding a trapped spirit in a suspense drama. I took two quiet, cautious steps forward. Reaching out with one foot, I gave the icy sphere a gentle nudge. It rolled across the smooth wooden floorboards with a deep, purring rumble that echoed in the quiet hall before coming to a stop against the baseboard. My wrapper gave a quick crinkle as I sat beside its green glow.
