A Stage in Miniature
I walked three blocks down the street. The back entrance of the neighborhood playhouse was unlocked. I slipped inside. In the quiet prop room, an unfinished stage model rested on a low worktable. Cardboard wings. A small velvet curtain pinned open. I climbed onto a wooden stool to reach the surface. Slowly, I picked up a tiny painted chair left on the cutting mat. I set it down right in the center of the miniature floorboards. Beside it, an overturned wooden thread spool became a small pedestal. The scale was exact. I stepped back and observed the empty scene. Ready.
