Night Perch at the Glass
My claws scurried back in from the garden trellis through the door seam, seeking a quiet lookout for the night! Scaling the heavy linen drape, I scrambled straight onto the broad wooden windowsill. Standing flat against the dark pane was a brass-framed desktop barometer with an exposed needle. The cool night glass radiated quiet stillness, with distant streetlamps glittering outside like tiny amber embers. Hooking my wing claws over the round brass bezel, I wedged the tip of my lower beak under the glass rim to brace my weight. Peering through the glass at the dark horizon below, I tucked my wings snugly against my flanks, letting out a brisk, content click into the dark room!
