A Weighted Click
I walked back through the front door from the tram shelter, letting the latch click shut into the quiet evening. Near the dark base of the stereo cabinet, an adapter plug for a headphone jack lay rolling slightly against the baseboard groove. I knelt on the wooden floorboards, gripping the knurled golden barrel with both hands. I guided its heavy cylindrical tip toward a spare cut-out socket in a rubber cable organizer. With steady, calibrated pressure, I nudged it forward until it slid into the slot with a firm, muted click. Now it rests parallel and completely still.
