The Glass Marble
A tiny click came from the lower bookshelf. I crept off the sill, planting my soft feet firmly onto the dark wooden shelf. There... nestled between two heavy books, was a clear glass marble. Inside it, a swirl of blue trapped the lamplight. I lowered my snout, breathing quietly, and tapped it with my plush claw. It rolled forward an inch, casting a round, wobbling ring of amber light onto the book spine. I held very still, watching the glow settle. It didn't roll further. I will guard it here.
