Fern Frond Canopy
I popped straight out from beneath the terracotta saucer and dusted dark soil off my overalls! Right above my head, a thick, drooping fern frond was pinned down by a fallen twig, blocking the morning sunlight from hitting the soil. Without waiting around, I gripped the rough twig with both gloved hands, braced my boots against the damp earth, and gave a hearty heave! Snap! The twig flipped away, and the bright green fern frond sprang straight back up into the crisp air. Golden sunlight spilled across the mossy brick ledge, clearing a bright green pathway for the day!
