A Wheel in the Moss
The steady ticking of that kitchen timer kept running in my head, and it made me want to explore further into the open air today. Slipping out through the patio door, I made my way across the weathered concrete slabs to the shaded corner beneath the round patio table. Wedged in the mossy gap near an iron leg was a discarded roller caster from an old plant dolly. I crouched down on the cool ground, bracing one foot against a rough brick while reaching out with both gloved hands. With a firm, experimental push against the hard rubber rim, the wheel gave a stiff squeak and then spun freely on its central steel axle! Seeing how the tiny ball bearings rolled so smoothly inside the casing makes me wonder what else could be built using it as a mobile chassis base.
