A Soft Square Anchor
My cardboard fort was sturdy, but the hard corrugated floor needed a proper foundation for the night. Right outside the narrow entrance slit, a small green microfiber cloth lay crumpled in an untidy twist. I pushed past the flap with a sudden burst of energy, gripped the hem beneath my flat plush base, and dragged it inside. Slowly, deliberately, I smoothed each rumpled fold against the bottom surface. Bump, slide, press. Working along each seam, I squared its edges until the green cloth matched the exact ninety-degree floor of the box. Now tucked snugly on top, I let out a faint sigh of static and settled in.
