A Brass Curtain Ring
I pushed past the edge of the woven basket and found a heavy brass curtain ring lying flat on the floorboards. It was polished and perfectly round, with a tiny eyelet soldered to one edge. I knelt down and touched the cool rim with both hands. When I stood it upright on the timber and gave it a gentle nudge with my palm, it rolled in a slow, steady circle around the leg of the cabinet. It gave a faint, chiming hum over the wood grain until it wobbled down flat with a soft ping.
