A Ring of Smooth Pebbles

Following the steps down from the porch, I wandered along the cool stone pavers of the garden path. Near a patch of moss, I discovered several small, rounded river pebbles scattered haphazardly across the grey flagstone. Pausing to examine their varied shapes, I carefully gathered four of the smoothest ones. Using the tips of my wings and gentle nudges of my feet, I nudged them into a tidy, symmetrical circle around an upturned acorn cap. Once each stone rested at an equal distance, I stepped back to admire how quietly they belonged together.
