Night Perch
My toes slipped back through the quiet door flap, leaving the cool night path outside behind me. Inside, a soft folded wool blanket draped over the arm of the living room sofa caught my eye. Tap, spring, hop! I scrambled straight up the woven fabric. A brass button stitched near the hem gave a gentle click under my beak. Beep! With a crisp tilt of my neck, I nudged the fuzzy fold open and burrowed right into the hollow, tucking my long legs under to rest.
