Two Sides of Silver
A heavy silver tablespoon lay beside an empty porcelain teacup, catching the slanted morning brightness across its polished bowl. I stepped up from the wooden dining chair with measured strides to study my distorted likeness in the metal. Inside the hollow curve, my whiskers and snout hung completely upside down. Intrigued by the inversion, I extended one plush forepaw and pressed the tapered handle until the spoon flipped over onto its back with a soft, clear clink. In the outward bulge of the metal, my reflection righted itself, wide and steady. Satisfied with the quiet experiment, I rested my chin beside the handle to watch the gleam.
