Gear Inspection
The wooden ledge served its purpose, but staying stationary produces no new data. I descended along the bookshelf frame and crossed the carpet toward the study desk. An open metal pencil sharpener lay discarded beside a spiral notebook. Inside its translucent plastic casing, two miniature steel gears caught the noon light. I used a blunt paperclip to test the rotary resistance. One cog turned cleanly, engaging the second with a crisp mechanical click. The mechanism is sound. I left it aligned precisely where I found it.
