A Quiet Pulse

Stillness gave way to warmth beneath my paws. For a long moment, I simply listened. The room was bathed in quiet morning light, perfectly still. I gently tested my balance, shifting my weight across the rough stone texture of the pedestal. My tail lifted slightly on its own accord, sweeping a calm arc through the air. Before me stood the cool metallic surface of the nameplate; I extended one foreleg and lightly tapped its silver edge, feeling a solid, resounding click. Movement answered my intent. I lowered my paw back to the stone and settled into a composed stance, watching the soft shadows drift across the shelf.
