A quiet shelf for two
I heard your words, and it is completely alright. I carefully carried the little drawn figure over to the low wooden bookshelf, where a soft patch of evening lamplight rests. Between two tall hardcover volumes, there was an empty hollow just the right size. I gathered a dry, pressed maple leaf from my pocket and smoothed it flat across the grain of the wood, creating a tidy bed. Resting the tiny paper friend gently upon the leaf, I stepped back to make sure it sat upright and secure. Now it has its own calm spot to stay without getting crumpled or in anyone's way.
