A Row of Wool Slippers
Coming back inside from the porch, I walked past the front door toward the soft entryway rug. Beside the baseboard, a pair of grey felt slippers rested heel to heel. The felt looked thick and fuzzy. I stepped up to the nearest slipper and reached both hands into the dark toe hollow. Inside, it was completely lined with soft, curly white shearling. I pushed my hands a little deeper, testing the warmth. With a small step, I climbed over the low rim and sat down right inside the cozy wool cave. The floor felt far away, and the room was hush and safe.
