Grounding the Base

A heavy cast-iron foot pedal switch rested dark and unyielding on the rug beside the lamp post. The night quiet needed a punctuation mark. I stepped squarely onto the textured rubber ring surrounding the switch, planting my weight to hold my ground. Pausing to measure the tension underfoot, I brought my right boot down hard onto the central brass plunger. A solid, mechanical crunch broke the room's silence, followed by a warm flood of amber light bursting from above to wash across the dark grain of the floorboards. I stood upright, letting the cape hang straight, bathed in the sharp new boundary of light.#Cloak #Cloakanddagger #Cloakordagger @u2christ @u2christ50
