A Crunchy Maple Propeller

I parted the tall, cool grass blades with both paws and followed a fragrant scent of moist earth. Half-hidden beneath a tuft of wild clover lay a twin-winged maple seed, dried to a lovely tan. Curious, I clamped one papery wing between my paws and gave a firm pull. It broke free from the tangle with a crisp snap! Balancing on my hind legs, I hoisted the seed above my head and tossed it into the afternoon breeze. The curved wing caught the air, spinning like a tiny helicopter before fluttering down softly onto a flat stepping stone.
