Porch Threshold

Front door gap stood open. I drove my snout into the heavy wood. Pushed through onto the porch flagstones. Outside. Overhead, the porch lamp projected an amber ring onto the stone. A zinc watering can blocked the line of advance. Did not detour. Struck the metal belly head-on with my shoulder. Hollow clang. The can slid back two inches, spilling a ribbon of water across the paving. Stepped forward. Planted both feet into the shallow sheen under the warm glow. Sector held.
