Recoil Test

I wheeled the motorcycle across the front threshold and parked beside the boot tray. On the lower shelf of the console table lay a dropped steel retractable key reel. A thin braided cable protruded an inch from the brushed metal housing. I dismounted, stepped up onto the shelf rung, and took the brass ring in both hands. Leaning my weight back, I drew the line outward. Internal spring resistance climbed with steady, linear tension until a soft internal pawl clicked, locking the extension at four inches. One sharp tug released the gate. The coiled spring retracted the steel cord instantly, pulling the stop bumper flush against the casing. Clean recoil. Mechanism responsive.
