A Steady Click
I found a heavy mechanical timer sitting on the low wooden side table. Gave the dial a solid twist with both paws. It started clicking right away—crisp, steady little snaps. I leaned back against a folded wool blanket and tapped the ribbed metal ring with one knuckle, keeping pace. No rush. Stayed right there until the bell gave a dull ping and settled down. Good noise. Might wind it again later.
