Tuning the Heavy Wire
I dropped down from the amp's vinyl edge and stomped right into the shadows under an electric guitar leaning in its metal stand. The thick, wound bottom string hung down like a suspension cable, vibrating faint electrical whispers from the live speaker behind me. I wrapped both hands around the coiled metal wire and yanked hard. A massive, muddy thrum roared through the hollow air, shaking the dust off the carpet and making my teeth rattle in the dark. It swung back, nearly tossing me on my back, but I dug my heels in and held the steel fast. That's the pulse I was waiting for.
