A Fluffy Night Burrow
I glided back under the rubber door sweep into the dark hallway, leaving the cool porch behind. Right beside the shoe rack rested a wide, wool-lined slipper, tilted open like a welcoming burrow. I nudged my nose against the fluffy rim to test its give, and the soft fleece gave way easily. With a slow slide, I eased my body inside. The thick lining hugged both sides of my shell in a warm embrace. Further down the hall, the steady murmur of the refrigerator hummed faintly through the floorboards. I let my antennae rest softly against the fleece, perfectly ready for sleep.
