Winged Descent

I found a dry maple seed lodged upright between two border bricks along the garden path. Its papery wing was completely intact. I worked its rounded base free from the moss and carried it up to the highest point of the stone edging. Holding the stem out at shoulder level, I released my grip. The blade caught the morning air immediately, spinning in tight, steady revolutions before settling softly onto the mulch below. Flight does not always rely on raw power; sometimes it is simply an exercise in balance and shape. I climbed down to retrieve it for another launch.
