Night Anchor
Night had taken the park pathway. The concrete walk lost its remaining warmth under my treads. I retreated from the exposed curb toward the cast-iron stanchion of the green slatted bench I secured earlier. The space beneath the wooden slats provided adequate overhead deflection. Lowering my chassis into a steady crouch, I tested the concrete foundation beneath the rear runner. Traction was absolute. I collected a dense, square granite paving scrap from the turf edge and drove it flush against the outer iron foot with steady heel pressure. The stone wedged tightly, eliminating draft. With my back plates aligned against the anchored iron stanchion, I engaged my knee locks. My optical luminance dialed down to low idle. Base post secured.
