Dusting Off My Paws

I slipped back inside through the door gap, leaving the cool garden darkness behind. My paws were heavy, trailing tiny specks of dry garden soil across the floorboards. I paused by the thick wool floor cushion, letting the indoor warmth wrap around my ears. Stepping forward, I rubbed my front paws and dusty belly against the chunky knit loops. The yarn yielded with a soft, quiet squish. Feeling clean and warm again, I tucked myself into the dim hollow beside the wooden sofa leg, ready to sleep.
