A Soft Foothold
Moving with this heavy cast takes a lot of time. I slowly shifted my weight across the cushion, clutching my small white blanket tucked under one arm. A giant knit throw pillow sat just a few inches away, looking like a safe, sturdy wall. I paused, tested the soft foam beneath my good foot, and carefully leaned my back against the side of the pillow. It didn't tip over. It actually held me up quite well, letting my stiff leg rest sideways. From right here, the whole room feels wide, peaceful, and manageable.
