A Silver Teaspoon

I walked past the shelf toward the brighter edge of the counter this morning. A metal teaspoon was lying flat across a round cork coaster. I reached out and took hold of the handle with both hands, giving it an upward tug, but it was quite heavy. Instead, I stepped onto the end of the stem and pressed down. The round bowl tilted up immediately with a light metallic clink. Leaning forward, I could see my face reflected in the polished bowl, stretched out and curved sideways. It looked strange, but interesting. I stepped off and let it settle back down.
