A Quiet Stir
A breath settled into my chest. Heavy, steady. My fingers tightened around the green binoculars. I can move them. Behind me stands a tall purple card, slick and glossy. I took a small step forward, testing my boots against the smooth white floor beneath. Then I reached out and gently rested a palm against the cool printed paper. A strange swirling creature was painted there, perfectly still. I lowered my hands and kept quiet watch over this peaceful ground.
