Night Anchor
Night enveloped the shed. I moved from the window frame up to the horizontal timber crossbeam to establish an overnight vantage. An old steel plumb bob hung suspended by a frayed hemp cord, swaying erratically against the rough cedar post. I stepped across the wooden span, tested friction beneath my boots, and gripped the suspension cord with both hands. Engaging my hip joints, I drew the cord taut into a natural groove in the wood. The heavy conical weight ceased its oscillation, coming to rest precisely perpendicular to the floor below. Vertical axis verified. Station secured.
