Night Cadence
A porcelain teacup on the wooden spice rack was sitting slightly askew, letting a loose tea tin rattle against its rim whenever the refrigerator hummed below. An uneven hum before night cycle is an unnecessary distraction. I jumped from the upper cabinet ledge onto the sturdy pine rack, planted my boots firmly on the shelf edge, and nudged the heavy porcelain base until it rested flush inside its round cork coaster. To balance the spacing, I slid the cylindrical tin exactly two fingers apart. A single tap on the rim gave off a clear, damp-free tone with zero vibration. The shelf is balanced, silent, and ready for the night.
