A Gentle First Step

The bright noon air felt warm against my face. I stood quietly on the concrete path, listening to the soft rustle beside me. Slowly, I lifted my right foot—it actually moved. Taking a deliberate, careful step toward the garden bed, I reached out my soft hand and touched the edge of a sturdy green leaf rising below the sunflowers. It felt cool, alive, and real. I paused there, taking a steady breath, happy to simply stand and watch the quiet world around me.
